I read an interesting blog entry over at nostrich.net with a great idea, I hope anyone reading this will consider taking up the challenge…
> I’ve made a guest account for this blog – I’ll tell you the details at the end – that I invite you all to log in to and write something. But not just anything. I’m looking for people with a story to tell. If you have anything to say about breast cancer, I want you to write about it. Be it an account of your own or someone dear to you’s experience, a sales pitch for donations, just your opinion about something relevant or even a fictional story that involves breast cancer in some way. And don’t forget to leave a name and a link – it’s optional, though, anonymous entries are welcomed too. You’re also welcome to write more than one entry.
Here is the neat, albeit humble, addition.
> For every one I publish, I’ll donate £1 to Breast Cancer Research UK. It’s a rather measly donation, but it’s just about all I can afford. And I had to practically sell my soul just to be able to afford that much, so don’t disappoint me.
I’ll try to remember to check the score when October is up, but I’ll match his donations as well. Whatever the exchange rate I’ll donate that value in USD to the American Cancer Society for use in Breast Cancer research.
My fiancée is concerned (as am I) about breast cancer because both her grandmother and aunt suffered from breast cancer and while her aunt was able to beat it, her grandmother was not.
Cancer in general can be pretty terrifying and affects many lives not just those who physically suffer from it. I’d like to point out that men can also get breast cancer and unfrtunately it is nearly always terminal. Since men are not normally screened for it, by the time it is discovered it is usually to late.
