iTunes 6.0.2 can import/export OPML

Note: I am not sure when it was added but I can say it is available in iTunes 6.0.2.

For those of you who do not know what OPML is, it is the standard format that RSS (a.k.a web feed) readers save subscription lists in. For more info visit Wikipedia

To export your podcasts list to OPML you just go to Podcasts. Then choose File > Export Song List… when you save the file choose the Format OPML and you’re done.

Later if you nuked your iTunes library or if you got an OPML list from a friend you can import it by going to File > Import… then just select the OPML file and you will get a message asking if you are sure you want to add the podcasts.

  1. I have 6.0.1.3 on Windows, and OPML is not one of the choices. Only .txt or .xml. The xml file is not OPML.

I can also confirm that on Windows, iTunes version 6.0.2.23 I do not have the option to choose OPML as the output format – the only option I have is XML and the resultant format is NOT OPML.

This does not work in Windows. Version 6.0.2.23 only offers the option of XML, and the resultant format is NOT OPML.

Hmmm.. very ‘Universal’ – I think not

I use 6.0.2.23 on Windows XP Media Center 2002 SP2. Import of a Juice OPML subscription-list works fine! Export only possible in XML-format(as said before by Paul).

I’m running 6.0.2.23 on Windows XP and iTunes crashes whenever I try the export. I wished this would work; just last night I started writing some code to create a subscription list using the iTunes COM SDK. A functional OPML export feature would save me the effort.
